Prof. Dr. Anita Kamondi (born november 24, 1962) is a senior lecturer at the Department of Neurology, Department of Neurosurgery and Neurointervention, Semmelweis University, and a national neurologist and chief physician.
She graduated with a medical degree summa cum laude from the Medical University of Pécs in 1987.
She passed the neurology and clinical neurophysiology examinations in 1993 and 2008.
She became a candidate of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1995 and a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2012.
She habilitated in 2005 and was awarded the title of university professor in 2006.
She began her scientific work by examining the function of the hippocampus, and then conducted basic research at research centers in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Her clinical research initially focused primarily on the study of tremor in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders and in cerebellar damage. In the last decade, she has been conducting clinical neurophysiological studies of neurodegenerative diseases and disorders of consciousness. In this context, many of her research studies deal with the relationship between Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy.
The number of her publications exceeds 300, her citation count is 4177, and her Hirsch index is 25.
She has been engaged in high-level educational activities for more than thirty years. In addition to undergraduate training, she is also actively involved in postgraduate, specialist examination and PhD training, is the leader of 7 PhD topics, and was a reviewer or committee member in 39 cases during the degree acquisition.
She teaches in both Hungarian and English, is a subject manager, and organizes several professional continuing education courses.
From 2024, she will be an educational mentor of the Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) of Semmelweis University.
She performed her clinical work at the Neurology Department of Semmelweis University between 1994 and 2010, where the first Hungarian tremorometry laboratory was established under her leadership.
Between 2010 and 2024, she worked at the National Institute of Mental Health, Neurology and Neurosurgery, and from 2014 as the professional director of neurology.
From 2024, following the merger of OMIII and Semmelweis University, she will continue her managerial activities at the Department of Neurology of the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurointervention.
She is a member and senior official of several domestic and international scientific societies, including the former president of the Hungarian Clinical Neurophysiology Society, a board member of the European Federation of Autonomic Societies, a member of the Education Committee of the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology and the secretary of the Europe, Middle East, Africa Chapter. She also acts as the Hungarian coordinator of the World Federation of Neurology.
She is a regular reviewer in domestic and international applications and journals, including external expert of OTKA, Belgian Alzheimer Foundation, European Commission H2020 and IMI projects, and a reviewer of several renowned journals (e.g. Brain, Neuroscience, Movement Disorders, Neurobiology of Aging, The Lancet Neurology).
Her activity as a conference organizer is outstanding, she participated in the organization of several European and domestic congresses, including the 2017 Budapest, 2023 Marseille and 2025 London European Clinical Neurophysiology Congresses. In 2023, she was a member of the organizing committee of the EAN congress in Budapest.
Her work has been recognized with numerous awards and recognitions, including the Bolyai Scholarship, Széchenyi Scholarship, Teaching Merit Award, Semmelweis University Outstanding Teacher, OTKA Ipolyi Arnold Award.
She speaks fluent English, basic German and Portuguese.
